This is a bigger project -- not the mammoth tusk,
just the brackets.
A pair of these tusks and some other items were donated to the City
of Galena by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and they asked me to
make the brackets. This tusk is about 7 feet long and 25,000 years
old. The brackets are 3/4" steel bars, wrapped around the tusk,
drawn out to spear points at the top and birch leaves at the bottom.

Oh, yeah -- here are some blacksmithing
pictures. A few details of the mammoth project, including the little
tusk. It's only six feet long and mounted vertically. |

Here is a recent project that will be a dining room chandelier. I
made it for an electrician, so he will be installing the wiring and
fixtures himself. It's four feet long, and will have four electric
lights in addition to candle holders. |

These pictures are of my first gate. It represents a moose looking
out of a willow thicket. You can see a basket twist on one of the
bars and the moose's right ear moves to work the latch
mechanism, shown in the picture on the right. Note the position
of the right ear, which operates the latch. There is a keyhole
in his left eye. |
